The name of this dance comes from the Latin word for touch (tangere) and it originated along the banks of the Rio Plata in the region of Buenos Aires. The tango was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in 2009. It has European influences like Flamenco and Polka and also South American (Habanero) and African (Milonga). It became a separate dance form in the mid 19th century.
